Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy which was founded in 1874 by Andrew Taylor Still in the USA. Osteopathy was brought to the UK by John Martin Littlejohn in 1898 and in 1915 the first college teaching osteopathy was established here. There are now 11 colleges in the UK where osteopathy is taught in courses which are 4-5 years long.
Osteopaths use a system of diagnosis and treatment to address musculoskeletal pain such as muscle and joint strains and ligament sprains. Both acute (recent) and chronic (long standing) conditions are treated taking into account your occupation, levels of activity, medical health and previous injuries.
The Maria Hayes Osteopathic Clinic was established in central London in 2007 and is located at 2nd Floor, 29 Museum Street, London WC1A 1LN .
I am a fully insured osteopath and am registered with the General Osteopathic Council (Osteopathy Regulator) and I’m a member of the Institute of Osteopathy. I also teach at undergraduate level at the London School of Osteopathy in London.
Most private health insurers recognise Osteopathy as a treatment option for musculoskeletal problems and will fund treatment on receipt of a referral from a GP.
As a new patient, I will take a detailed case history, fully evaluate you and discuss the diagnosis and a management plan with you including treatment and appropriate exercises/activities.
On subsequent visits, we will discuss progress and I will re-assess you, provide more treatment and re-evaluate the exercises/activities.
New patient session: 45 minutes
Returning patient session: 30 minutes
